History

FOJP Service Corporation is one of the largest non-profit insurance and risk management organizations in the country and a leader in the risk management community. Since 1977, FOJP has administered property and casualty insurance programs for a group of major hospitals, long-term care facilities, and social service agencies in the metropolitan New York area. Some of the city’s most important and highly regarded academic medical centers – and more than 8,000 physicians and dentists – participate in FOJP’s professional liability insurance program, the first of its kind in the nation.

Products and Services

The FOJP program provides a full range of property and casualty insurance products and services for its clients. These coverages include health care professional liability, commercial general liability, automobile liability and physical damage, workers’ compensation, multimedia liability, biological and chemical contamination, commercial crime, boiler and machinery, property, directors’ and officers’ coverage, and pension trust liability. We also maintain foreign liability insurance for exposures abroad.

FOJP is organized much like a commercial insurance company, with underwriting, insurance services, policy administration, claims, and risk management departments. FOJP’s services include:

• Design and structure of insurance coverages;
• Alternative risk transfer and financing through captive and commercial insurers;
• Claims administration and litigation management;
• Risk control and loss control to minimize losses arising from client operations; and
• Data collection and analysis in support of purchasing and risk prevention efforts.

As risk management advisor to its clients, FOJP has a deep interest in initiatives to reduce patient injury and improve clinical outcomes. FOJP systematically collects and analyzes data on incidents, losses and claims; helps identify potential hazards; investigates adverse patient incidents and claims; provides claims management and continuous monitoring of legal services; and coordinates a vigorous claims defense to minimize losses and discourage frivolous lawsuits.

Through publications, seminars, training courses and other educational efforts, the company helps health care professionals respond to new developments in medicine and insurance regulation. FOJP is also its clients’ insurance advocate, monitoring tort law trends and other critical legal issues, then recommending and pursuing appropriate judicial, legislative and regulatory action.
